Pros & Cons

Pros

  • Full label with doses published
  • Saw palmetto at the studied 320 mg dose
  • AnaGain at the dose of its pilot study

Cons

  • Saw palmetto helped 38% vs 68% on finasteride
  • Tocotrienols at about 1/8 of the trial dose

Who Is This For?

Recommended For:

Men with early male-pattern hair loss who have decided against finasteride and minoxidil, want a saw palmetto formula at the studied dose, and accept that results in trials were modest.

Not Recommended For:

Men with sudden, patchy or rapid hair loss, which needs a doctor's assessment; anyone with a blood test coming up without telling the doctor about the biotin; people allergic to soy (phosphatidic acid is from soy lecithin); women who are pregnant or breastfeeding and children (the label's own warning); and anyone taking regular medicines without checking, since black pepper extract can change how some drugs are cleared.

Summary

What is in it, per 2 capsules: saw palmetto 320 mg, pumpkin seed extract 250 mg (about 50 mg beta-sitosterol), pea sprout extract (AnaGain Nu) 100 mg, a palm tocotrienol complex 100 mg (only 12.1 mg of actual tocotrienols), cayenne 60 mg, phosphatidic acid 50 mg, biotin 500 mcg, zinc 10 mg, selenium 55 mcg and a few vitamins.

What the research says:

  • Saw palmetto at this exact dose improved hair in 38% of men over two years, against 68% on finasteride, in an open-label trial.
  • Tocotrienols raised hair counts in one small trial at 100 mg a day, about eight times Folisin's amount.
  • AnaGain's headline figures come from a topical test in 10 people and a 21-person pilot, both run by the ingredient's supplier.

The NHS names finasteride and minoxidil as the main treatments for male-pattern baldness. Returns are limited to 10 days from purchase, for unopened goods.

Ingredient Breakdown

The label, ingredient by ingredient, with the best human hair-loss evidence we could find.

  1. Saw palmetto, 320 mg. In a two-year open-label trial of 100 men, 320 mg a day improved hair in 38%, against 68% on finasteride 1 mg. A systematic review found that robust, high-quality data are lacking, and the NCCIH says the evidence is too limited for conclusions.
  2. Pumpkin seed extract, 250 mg (about 50 mg beta-sitosterol). The positive trial used 400 mg of pumpkin seed oil a day for 24 weeks (hair count +40% vs +10% on placebo). Folisin uses a different preparation, an extract standardised to beta-sitosterol. See our guide to pumpkin seed oil for hair loss.
  3. Pea sprout extract (AnaGain Nu), 100 mg. A 21-person, 8-week pilot at this dose reported less shedding after 28 days. The abstract does not say it was placebo-controlled, and the authors work for the supplier. The sales page's "78% hair growth in three months" does not appear in the paper, and its gene-activity figures come from a topical lotion, with the two numbers swapped.
  4. Tocotrienol complex (EVNolMax), 100 mg, of which 12.1 mg tocotrienols. An 8-month trial of 38 people found hair numbers rose about 35% with 100 mg of tocotrienols a day.
  5. Cayenne, 60 mg. A 5-month trial combined 6 mg of capsaicin with 75 mg of soy isoflavones. Folisin has no isoflavones, and its capsaicin content differs between labels: 2% (about 1.2 mg) on the German label, 10% (about 6 mg) on the US one.
  6. Biotin, 500 mcg. The American Academy of Dermatology says biotin only helps if you are deficient.
  7. Phosphatidic acid 50 mg, zinc 10 mg, selenium 55 mcg, copper 1 mg, vitamins A and E. No hair trials we could verify; nutrient-level doses.

Dosage Analysis

Our Dose Check compares each label amount with the dose in the best human study.

  • Saw palmetto: 320 mg vs 320 mg a day for 24 months. Matches, and still well behind finasteride.
  • Pumpkin seed: 250 mg of extract vs 400 mg a day of oil. Different preparation.
  • AnaGain: 100 mg vs 100 mg a day for 8 weeks. Matches a small supplier-run pilot.
  • Tocotrienols: 12.1 mg vs 100 mg a day for 8 months. About an eighth.
  • Capsaicin: about 1.2 mg (German label) or 6 mg (US label) vs 6 mg a day plus 75 mg isoflavones. Only half the combination is there.

The directions are two capsules a day (one capsule twice a day), about 30 minutes before a meal, with 300 ml of water. A bottle of 60 lasts a month. Hair trials ran from 8 weeks to 2 years, so a fair test takes at least three to six months.

Quality & Testing

Our Transparency Score checks five things a buyer can verify. Folisin scores 2 out of 5.

  • Label with doses: yes. A full label is on the German sales page, though its capsaicin figure differs from the US label.
  • Identifiable company: no. The German site names Key Player Limited, Dubai Airport Freezone; the label says Folisin is a registered trademark of NuviaLab Limited; the US site names only "folisin.com" in Hong Kong. No manufacturer.
  • Refund terms in writing: yes. 10 calendar days from purchase, unused goods only.
  • Independent testing shown: no.
  • Study on the finished product: no.

Several review sites say Folisin has a 100-day money-back guarantee. We found no such guarantee on any official page.

Correction. An earlier version of this review listed L-methionine, green tea and nettle (not in the product), gave wrong doses for saw palmetto, biotin and zinc, said saw palmetto interferes with PSA tests (the NCCIH says it does not appear to), and showed a 90-day guarantee. We have corrected it.

Value for Money

Prices when we checked in September 2026:

  • German site (where our link leads): €59.99 for 1 bottle, €119.98 for 3, €179.97 for 6.
  • US site: $69.99, $139.98, $209.97.

That is €1.00 to €2.00 a day. For comparison, generic finasteride and minoxidil, the treatments with the strongest evidence, are prescription or pharmacy products in most countries; ask your doctor or pharmacist about the cost where you live.

The return rule. The terms allow withdrawal "within 10 calendar days from the date of purchase", in writing, for goods with no signs of use, and state that EU law does not apply. A fair test of any hair product takes months, so in practice you cannot try it and return it.

Side Effects & Safety

  • Saw palmetto is generally well tolerated, according to the NCCIH, and does not appear to affect PSA test results.
  • Biotin can interfere with some blood tests, including heart tests, according to the FDA. Tell your doctor you take it.
  • Soy is present, from the phosphatidic acid.

There is no clinical study on Folisin itself. The label excludes children and pregnant or breastfeeding women.

Final Verdict

Our Verdict

4.2/5

Folisin is better documented than most hair supplements: a full label and two ingredients at their studied doses. But the best of those, saw palmetto, helped fewer men than finasteride in the same trial, the tocotrienols are at an eighth of the effective dose, and the AnaGain marketing overstates a small supplier study. Returns are limited to 10 days for unopened bottles. For male-pattern hair loss, see a doctor about finasteride or minoxidil first. Folisin is at best a modest alternative for men who rule those out.
